### Getting There

To reach the trailhead, you can either drive or use public transport. If you're driving, head towards the town of Schierke, which is the closest significant landmark. There are parking facilities available near the trailhead. For those using public transport, take a train to Wernigerode and then a bus to Schierke. From Schierke, it's a short walk to the starting point of the trail.

#### Barenberg

The first significant landmark you'll encounter is Barenberg. This section of the trail offers a gentle ascent, providing a good warm-up for the hike. The terrain is mostly forested, with a mix of deciduous and coniferous trees. Keep an eye out for local wildlife such as deer and various bird species. #### Schnarcherklippen

Approximately 2 km (1.2 miles) into the hike, you'll reach Schnarcherklippen, a pair of striking rock formations. The rocks are named for the snoring sound the wind makes as it passes through them. This section involves a bit of a steeper climb, adding about 50 meters (164 feet) to your elevation gain. The area around Schnarcherklippen is rich in flora, including various types of moss and lichen, which thrive in the moist, shaded environment.

#### Ruine Eldendsburg

Continuing on, you'll come to the Ruine Eldendsburg, the ruins of an old castle. This historical site dates back to the medieval period and offers a glimpse into the region's past. The ruins are located about 3.5 km (2.2 miles) into the hike. The trail here is relatively flat, making it an excellent spot to take a break and explore. Information boards provide historical context, detailing the castle's significance and the events that led to its current state.
