Starting near Bielefeld, Germany, the Waterbor, Steinbrink and Habichtsburg Loop is a delightful 5 km (3.1 miles) loop trail with an elevation gain of approximately 100 meters (328 feet). This medium-difficulty trail offers a mix of natural beauty and historical intrigue, making it a rewarding experience for hikers of various skill levels.
#### Steinbrink Section As you transition into the Steinbrink section, the trail becomes more undulating. This part of the loop is known for its rocky outcrops and offers a moderate challenge with a series of short but steep climbs. Over the next 2 kilometers (1.2 miles), you will gain approximately 50 meters (164 feet) in elevation. The terrain here can be uneven, so sturdy hiking boots are recommended. This section also offers some of the best views of the surrounding forest and valleys.
#### Habichtsburg Section The final section of the loop takes you through the Habichtsburg area, named after the historic Habichtsburg Castle ruins. Although not as well-preserved as Sparrenburg, these ruins offer a glimpse into the region's medieval past. This part of the trail is a gentle descent, making it a pleasant way to end your hike. Over the last 2 kilometers (1.2 miles), you will descend about 30 meters (98 feet).
