#### The Roaches The Roaches are a series of gritstone escarpments that provide stunning vistas and are popular among rock climbers. As you hike along the ridge, keep an eye out for the distinctive rock formations, including the famous Hen Cloud, a prominent outcrop that offers a challenging climb for those inclined.
#### Lud's Church Around the 6 km (3.7 miles) mark, you'll descend into Lud's Church, a deep, moss-covered chasm steeped in history and legend. This geological feature is actually a large cleft in the rock, formed by a landslip. Lud's Church is said to have been a secret place of worship for the Lollards in the 15th century, and it exudes an almost mystical atmosphere. The descent into Lud's Church involves a series of steps and can be slippery, so take care.
#### Gradual Descent and Woodland Path After exploring Lud's Church, the trail continues through a serene woodland area. This section is relatively flat and allows for a leisurely walk as you make your way back towards the Roaches. The final 4 km (2.5 miles) of the trail involve a gentle descent, bringing you back to the starting point at Roaches Gate.
