Starting near the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, England, the River Thames and Hurley Lock Walk is a delightful 13 km (approximately 8 miles) loop trail with virtually no elevation gain, making it accessible for a wide range of hikers. #### Boulter's Lock Approximately 2 km (1.2 miles) into the hike, you'll come across Boulter's Lock, a historic lock on the River Thames. This lock has been in operation since the 18th century and is a popular spot for watching boats navigate the river. There are also nearby cafes where you can take a short break and enjoy the riverside views.
#### Cliveden House Continuing along the trail, around the 5 km (3.1 miles) mark, you'll pass by Cliveden House, a magnificent estate with a rich history. Once the home of the Astor family, Cliveden is now a luxury hotel and part of the National Trust. While the house itself is not directly on the trail, the surrounding woodlands and gardens are visible and add a touch of grandeur to your hike.
#### Hurley Lock At approximately 8 km (5 miles), you'll reach Hurley Lock, another significant lock on the River Thames. This area is steeped in history, with the nearby village of Hurley dating back to the Saxon era. The lock is a great place to pause and take in the serene environment, perhaps even enjoying a picnic by the water.
