#### West Witton to West Burton
The trail begins in West Witton, a village known for its traditional stone houses and scenic views of Penhill. As you set off, you'll gradually ascend through rolling fields and pastures, gaining approximately 100 meters (328 feet) in elevation over the first 3 km (1.9 miles). Keep an eye out for local wildlife, including rabbits and various bird species.
After about 5 km (3.1 miles), you'll reach the village of West Burton. This charming village is home to the beautiful Cauldron Falls, a small but picturesque waterfall that is perfect for a short rest and photo opportunity. #### West Burton to Aysgarth Falls
Leaving West Burton, the trail continues through lush meadows and woodlands, gradually climbing another 150 meters (492 feet) over the next 4 km (2.5 miles). This section offers stunning views of the surrounding dales and is particularly beautiful in spring when wildflowers are in bloom.
At around the 9 km (5.6 miles) mark, you'll arrive at Aysgarth Falls, one of the most famous landmarks in the Yorkshire Dales. These impressive waterfalls are divided into three sections: Upper, Middle, and Lower Falls. Each offers unique views and photo opportunities, and there are several viewing platforms and picnic areas where you can take a break.
#### Aysgarth Falls to West Witton
From Aysgarth Falls, the trail heads back towards West Witton, descending approximately 150 meters (492 feet) over the final 8 km (5 miles). This section takes you through more pastoral landscapes and offers a chance to see traditional dry stone walls and sheep grazing in the fields.
