The trailhead is conveniently accessible by both car and public transport. If you're driving, you can park near the Etchingham railway station, which is also a convenient starting point for those arriving by train. The station is well-connected, with regular services from London and other major cities.
As you set off from Etchingham, you'll immediately notice the picturesque countryside that East Sussex is known for. The first section of the trail takes you through rolling fields and past ancient hedgerows. Keep an eye out for the Etchingham Church, also known as The Assumption of Blessed Mary and St. Nicholas, a beautiful 14th-century structure that stands as a testament to the area's rich history.
Around the 5 km (3.1 miles) mark, you'll begin to experience a gradual elevation gain of about 200 meters (656 feet).
