Castle Peak Trail is a moderately strenuous hike that offers breathtaking views of the Castle Peak mountain in the Sierra Nevada range of California. The trail starts at the Castle Peak Trailhead and follows a well-defined path through the forest before reaching a rocky ridge. The trail is steep in some sections and hikers should be prepared for a challenging climb. Along the way, hikers will be treated to views of the surrounding mountains and valleys, as well as wildflowers in the spring and summer. At the top, hikers will reach the summit of Castle Peak, where they can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding area. The total round trip distance of the hike is approximately 12.56 miles and elevation gain is approx. 4,700 feet.Conundrum Peak Trail, on the other hand, is a challenging hike that leads to the summit of Conundrum Peak, located in the Elk Mountains of Colorado. The trail starts at the Conundrum Hot Springs Trailhead and follows a steep and rocky path through the forest for about 8.5 miles round trip. Along the way, hikers will pass through aspen groves, cross creeks, and scramble over talus fields. The trail is not well marked and can be difficult to follow in some sections, so a map and compass or GPS device is recommended. As the trail gains elevation, hikers will be treated to stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The final push to the summit is steep and requires some scrambling, but the views from the top are well worth the effort. From the summit, hikers can see the Maroon Bells, Snowmass Mountain, and other peaks in the Elk Mountains. For information on how we grade trails, please click here. This trail can be completed in approx. 2 days.
