Yosemite National Park is located in California, USA, within the Sierra Nevada mountain range. It is situated near towns such as Mariposa, Oakhurst, and Groveland. The park was established on October 1, 1890, and played a pivotal role in the national park movement, thanks in part to the efforts of naturalist John Muir. Yosemite is renowned for its dramatic granite cliffs, waterfalls, giant sequoias, and rich biodiversity. The park offers ample parking with multiple lots, including those at Yosemite Valley, Wawona, and Tuolumne Meadows. Some areas, such as Yosemite Valley, can become quite crowded, especially in peak seasons, leading to limited availability. Parking fees are included in the park entrance fee, and visitors are encouraged to use the shuttle system within the valley to reduce congestion. Yosemite is home to a wide range of wildlife. Visitors can spot black bears, mule deer, bobcats, and coyotes. Bird species such as peregrine falcons and the endangered great grey owl also inhabit the park. The park’s diverse ecosystems support various species, making wildlife watching a highlight for many visitors. The flora of Yosemite is equally diverse, ranging from giant sequoias in Mariposa Grove to alpine meadows filled with wildflowers. Ponderosa pine, sugar pine, and white fir dominate the mid-elevation forests, while chaparral and oak woodlands thrive at lower elevations. Yosemite’s iconic features include El Capitan, Half Dome, and Yosemite Falls, one of the tallest waterfalls in North America. The Merced River and Mirror Lake are also popular attractions, alongside the serene meadows of Tuolumne and the stunning vistas from Glacier Point. Public transportation to Yosemite is available through YARTS (Yosemite Area Regional Transportation System), which connects the park to nearby towns and cities. Once inside the park, a free shuttle service operates within the valley.
