Pacific Rim National Park Reserve of Canada is located on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, along the southwestern coast of Canada. The park is divided into three distinct areas: Long Beach, the Broken Group Islands, and the West Coast Trail. Nearby towns include Tofino, Ucluelet, and Bamfield. Established in 1970, Pacific Rim was created to protect the unique natural landscapes of Vancouver Island's coastal rainforest and marine environments. Its history is tied to the region's First Nations, particularly the Nuu-chah-nulth people, who have lived in the area for thousands of years. The park’s establishment emphasized conservation and reconciliation with the indigenous peoples of the area. The park offers several parking facilities, with the most accessible being in the Long Beach area. Multiple parking areas can be found near trailheads, beaches, and campgrounds. A daily parking fee applies to most of these areas, which can be paid at kiosks located at the parking lots. Pacific Rim National Park Reserve is rich in wildlife, with species such as black bears, wolves, cougars, and Roosevelt elk commonly found in the forested areas. Marine life includes sea otters, gray whales, orcas, and seals. Birdwatchers can observe bald eagles, seabirds, and shorebirds along the coast. The flora of the park is diverse, ranging from temperate rainforests dominated by western red cedar, Sitka spruce, and hemlock trees to coastal dunes and wetlands that feature unique plant species like salal, sword ferns, and beach grasses. Key landmarks include the rugged West Coast Trail, the surf-swept Long Beach, and the intricate Broken Group Islands, popular for kayaking. Public transportation is available from nearby towns, with bus services connecting Tofino, Ucluelet, and park entry points during the peak season.
