Marramarra National Park is located in New South Wales, Australia, approximately 40 kilometers north of Sydney. Nestled between the Hawkesbury River and the town of Wisemans Ferry, the park is surrounded by the communities of Hornsby, Berowra, and Galston. This secluded park offers visitors a tranquil escape into nature, while still being within reach of major urban areas like Sydney. The park was established in 1979 and has a rich Indigenous history, with several Aboriginal rock art sites and engravings scattered throughout. It was historically used by Indigenous people for thousands of years before European settlers arrived. Some areas of the park were also used for farming in the 19th century. Marramarra National Park offers limited parking facilities due to its relatively remote location and rugged terrain. There are small parking areas available at key access points, such as at Bloodwood Road and Canoelands Road, and parking is free. However, visitors are encouraged to plan ahead, as spaces can fill quickly, especially on weekends and holidays. The park is home to a variety of native wildlife, including wallabies, echidnas, and numerous bird species like the powerful owl and lyrebird. The nearby rivers and creeks are habitats for platypuses and other aquatic life. The flora of Marramarra National Park includes a mix of sclerophyll forests, heathlands, and salt marshes. Common plant species include Sydney red gums, angophoras, and banksias, with striking wildflowers blooming in the spring. Notable features within the park include Marramarra Ridge, Marramarra Creek, and several historic Aboriginal sites. There is no direct public transport to Marramarra National Park. Visitors typically drive, though the closest public transport options are in nearby Hornsby, where buses and trains are available. Photo Credit: John Spencer
