Crowdy Bay National Park is located on the mid-north coast of New South Wales, Australia, about 40 km south of Port Macquarie and 6 km east of the town of Laurieton. The park spans a coastal area between Crowdy Head and Diamond Head, offering stunning landscapes of beaches, forests, and cliffs. The park was established in 1972, with a history that ties back to World War II when famous Australian artist Tom Roberts took refuge in the area. His former hut, "Tom's Cabin," has been restored and stands as a historical feature within the park. Parking facilities are available at several popular locations, including Diamond Head, Indian Head, and Kylies Beach. These areas have free parking, and there are also designated campgrounds where overnight visitors can park their vehicles. Some areas can get busy during peak holiday seasons, so early arrival is recommended to secure a spot. Crowdy Bay National Park is home to a variety of native wildlife. Visitors can expect to see eastern grey kangaroos, swamp wallabies, and goannas. Birdwatchers will enjoy sightings of sea eagles, ospreys, and pied oystercatchers along the coastline. Dolphins are often spotted offshore, and during the migration season, humpback whales pass through the region. The park's flora is diverse, with coastal heathlands, forests, and wetlands. Iconic plant species include banksias, coastal wattles, and the cabbage tree palm, which thrives in wetter areas. Spring brings vibrant wildflowers, including orchids and native peas, creating a colorful display. Key landmarks include Diamond Head, with its walking trails and panoramic views, and Kylies Hut, a historical site linked to writer Kylie Tennant. Public transport to the park is limited, and most visitors rely on private vehicles to access the park’s attractions. The scenic drive and coastal views make the journey worthwhile.
